Independent candidate Ken Lanci expresses disgust over continuing political patronage. The front page story of The Plain Dealer, “High-Paying Jobs are Created for Two Former Workers at Cuyahoga County Board of Revision” infuriated Independent candidate for Cuyahoga County Executive Ken Lanci.
“Where is the outrage? I am shocked at the arrogance of the machine politicians! Last week the Democrats called for Jimmy Dimora and Frank Russo to resign and right under the noses of the party leadership, Russo creates jobs for his cronies,” said Lanci.
The Plain Dealer article explains that Robert Chambers was fired from the Board of Revision for mismanagement and Brian Day resigned after questions of ethics violations. Now Auditor Frank Russo hires them to work in his office for newly created jobs which weren’t posted for the public.
If elected, Lanci will eliminate those jobs as quickly as they were created. Lanci has already started his own reform as a private citizen by filing a federal lawsuit last week, trying to stop the county commissioners and Auditor Frank Russo from making these types of harmful decisions.
“It is unbelievable that they would continue the political patronage, while under investigation by the FBI and after being repeatedly asked to resign,” said Lanci. “It is the perfect example that they are motivated by self-interest, not the interest of the people.
“It also proves we can’t just talk. We must take action. The head of the local Democratic Party spoke last week and it’s gotten us nowhere,” said Lanci. “Let’s count on the voters who are fed up to take action in November.”
