Lanci to Take Politics Out of County Government

in-the-news-lanciPutting an end to the conflicts of interest in county government, therefore eliminating political favors and corruption, is a top priority for Independent candidate for Cuyahoga County Executive Ken Lanci.

“We have a unique opportunity in Cuyahoga County right now to set up a system which will prevent further corruption and abuse of power in our county government. As county executive, I will create and enforce policies to protect the people and make sure county employees are doing the work of the people,” said Lanci.

Currently a number of county employees double as elected officials in various positions throughout the county. Through their elected offices, they build political clout, create alliances, owe political favors, and can carry undue influence in county government. Several of those who have pleaded guilty in the ongoing corruption scandal were able to exploit their political clout, sadly, for illegal activities.

“Of course, the great political machine of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, which is under investigation for corruption, creates a loyal force of donors and employees who owe their allegiance to the party and its elected officials. Instead of simply being loyal to the people of Cuyahoga County, they have divided loyalties. This has to end,” said Lanci.

Ken Lanci believes county workers should be loyal and accountable to county government and the people.

Summary of his policy proposal for county employees:

  • Managers and supervisors will not run for re-election or serve in other public offices.
  • Union and non-supervisory personnel must list campaign donors and organizations/individuals that have endorsed them and must avoid activities, contracts and employment issues with those entities in the course of their work.

“The public has a right to expect county employees to work for them, not other constituencies, not political parties, not endorsement organizations, not donors, not other politicians - just the people,” said Lanci.
